About Me

I grew up in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina, where I fell in love with reading and the way the leaves change every October. I received my BA in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Go Heels! Now, I live in the mountains of Virginia with my husband and our dog, the bringer of both joy and chaos.

I write stories about Black girls with complicated families and mental health struggles finding joy, love, and hope in dark places. I write the stories I needed to read at seventeen. I’m an active member of Adrienne Young’s Writing With the Soul community.

Fun facts I have at the ready: I’m just as likely to be listening to early ’00s Sean Paul, Nelly, and Ciara as I am 1989 (Taylor’s Version), Olivia Rodrigo, and the Band CAMINO. I swear by Ben & Jerry’s PB and Cookies Non-Dairy ice cream. I don’t play disc golf, but I’m really into the Disc Golf Pro Tour. If my husband tells you Isaac Robinson should have been 2023 Player of the Year over Calvin Heimburg, ignore him. He does not speak for this household.
